Ira's Budapest Experience

Hi there! Today we bring you one more interview with another exchange student. We asked Ira to tell us a little bit more about her life in Budapest. Here is what she has to say about her experience so far!

"Hi! My name is Ira and I come from Slovenia. I travelled to Budapest to study for one academic year (more or less ten months). There were four important reasons why I decided to come to Budapest. First, it was not that far away from my hometown in Slovenia which makes it easy for me to travel back home every time I need to. Second, it is very easy and cheap to travel from Budapest to other places in Europe. And this was very important to me. I really love to travel and I was really interested to know Hungary a bit better and all the other countries nearby! Third, I also knew that the University was really good so that influenced my decision as well. And, the fourth reason was that life here in Budapest is not very expensive. So, that was very convenient for my student budget.
I could go on hours talking about Budapest but I will try to keep it short and tell you the most important details from my experience. I am really enjoying the city so far. When I was visiting the city for the first time, I was surprised by the amount of amazing views it has. I have to say that my favorite places to visit so far are the Parliament (it is truly impressive) and Citadella (here you will have one of the best views of the city).
I have already tried some traditional Hungarian dishes. I have to admit that my favorite one is the typical Goulash - if you did not try it yet, you should definitely do it as soon as you can. And if you are going out for dinner do not forget to try the Hungarian wine as well. During the night, especially in clubs or pubs, you will probably be tempted to try Palinka. But, watch out, this one is very strong!
I also have to say that one of the best things about Budapest is the night life. The clubs here are amazing and full of life. The transports also work really well during the night, which makes it really easy for me to move around the city - and maybe try more than one club or pub during the night! Going out to clubs is when I have the most fun with my friends.
In the future, I would be really happy to come back here again!"

We hope you liked this post! We will bring you some more in the next few days. You are invited to join us here on our comment section and tell us your own story! You can also comment and follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We will update the blog every week so stay tune for new posts and more stories from students here in Budapest. Until then,

Morrisons 2

Welcome back!

Today we have a section named "The best Clubs/Pubs". We will be making different reviews about the best Pubs and Clubs existing in Budapest. We start today with Morrisons 2!

Morrisons 2 is a mix of a Pub and a Club. It has a huge yard in the middle where there are a lot of tables where you can sit with your friends to drink a beer or any other drink.

Also in Morrisons 2 they have different atmospheres depending of the type of music that you like to dance, for example:

R&B
Hip-Hop
Latín
Electronic

Each type of music has a specific room dedicated to it! So if you feel like dancing to Hip-Hop, for example, you can just go to this room and listen only to this type of music. Morrisons 2 even has a Karaoke room! Where people can request the staff some songs to sing with their friends.

But the most important thing about Morrisons 2 are the promotions!
Mondays: If you arrive before 11pm, you can buy 3 beers for 500 HUF (which is almost 2 euros).
Wednesday & Thursday: You have to pay 2.500 HUF (around 8 euros) but you have free bar during the whole night!

We hope this review can be useful for you, and that you spend a great time at Morrisons. And, do not forget:

Meet Eléonore Mouton

Hello and welcome back to our blog, todays section is called

"How I feel in Budapest"

The objective of this section is to show you the opinion of different exchange students about Budapest. We ask them the following questions!

  1. What is your name?
  2. Where do you come from?
  3. What are you doing in Budapest?
  4. Palinka or Hungarian wine?
  5. Goulash,  chicken paprika or stuffed cabbage?
  6. What is your favorite thing about Budapest?
  7. Tell us about your best and not so good experiences in Budapest.
  8. Would you come back to Budapest ?
Our first interview was with Eléonore Mouton, an Erasmus student from Belgium. Eléonore is staying in Budapest only for one semester studying Business. She likes to drink Palinka from time to time, but she admitted that she is more of a wine lover. Goulash is her favourite Hungarian dish. Besides this, she told us that she was not able to eat chicken anymore, given that she has been eating a lot since she got here! When we asked her what was her favourite thing about Budapest she could not make up her mind. She told us that the nightlife in Budapest was amazing and that would definitely be her top favourite thing about Budapest. Nevertheless, she also loves the beautiful view along the Danube. Her favourite and best experience in Budapest was the first time she walked around the Margaret insland during a sunny day and when she went to the Zoo. She also told us that she struggled a lot while looking for a flat and that this could have been considered her most unpleasant experience here in Budapest. When asked if she would come back to Budapest she did not hesitate: she will definitely come back. This is one of the most amazing cities she has ever been to!

We hope you enjoyed this section. If you liked it please, let us know on Facebook! Also if you want to make suggestions on other topics we should ask students about write us on Facebook!

We hope to see you soon!

And do not forget, Egészségedre!

Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum

Hi guys!
Our first post will be about what actually you can visit in Budapest! More concrete – about The Hungarian National Museum (Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum), that I visited today!
The Hungarian National Museum is in the city center and it is close to metro and tram station Kalvin ter.
It is one of the oldest and the largest public museum in Hungary.
It was built from 1837-1847 in neo-classic style. Over approximately 8000 square meters, it presents the culture and history of Hungary starting from the Stone Age to the present time. The museum has collected a huge (really HUUUGE) amount of artifacts, archaeological, historical, and ethnical relics, which bring closer the history of the people of the Carpathian Basin. The museum has also hosted temporary exhibitions. For example, right now it has a very cozy exhibition of posters from 1910-1920.

My opinion: I like museums, but I prefer more painting rather then all these historical artifacts. However, I must admit, I really liked this museum. You definitely must visit it! Even though, it has a lot of very old things, the exhibition is very modern! You can touch copies of some bonds from the Stone Age and also some nice jewelry from 15th century; you can easily read all necessary information about artifacts in English; you can watch small movies about different periods; you can see realistic pictures of ordinary Hungarians’ life.
By the way, speaking about jewelry, for those who like it, it will be a really pleasant time spending. They have a huge collection of different gold earrings, bracelets etc. from different centuries. For boys it won’t be boring as well, they have a very nice collection of weapons. I’m not going to describe all the things that I saw there, but trust me, you must go there! It worth at least an hour of your life!
I bought a full ticket, which means I was allowed to check the temporary exhibition. As I wrote before, it was an exhibition of posters from 1910-1920. It was a small exhibition, but it was decorated very nice. For example in the first hall in the middle they have two swings, so you can seat there and admire the bright posters around you.

Prices: At some web sites you can find that the price for students is 500 HUF, don’t trust! When we came, the classier told us that they don’t have students’ tickets. But they have a discount for EU-citizens under 26 years old, if you are on of them, the price will be 1100 HUF for all exhibitions, otherwise the price is like for a regular adults – 2200 HUF.
Address: 1088 Budapest Múzeum körút 14-16
Phone number: +36-1-338-2122

Some tips for those who will be hungry after the museum: not far from museum, one tram stop or 10-15  min. on foot, at Kazinczy u. 10, close to Szimpla bar, you can find a very very nice and testy place – Bors GastroBar – it is a kind of fast food restaurant, but they are trying to make some healthy fast food, plus(!) it is cheap (I had a glass of soup and paid for it 540 HUF)! Their  “must try” is a beacon soup, which is great! But you also can find there some salads, hot dog, hamburgers, pasta etc. The only mince that I found there is the size of this place – very small! But very testy!
